No weak links in Year 10 Chain Story 10 December 2009

Mrs Gault's Year ten English class ( Group Two) proudly present this rather excellent chain story they have collaborated on. Well done all!

Chain Story

A DEADLY MISTAKE

Night. Why do human beings have a fear of the dark?

Alice stood stationary in the soft silence of the night. She stared at the ageing house that stood before her. The wind whistled gently among the dead leaves. There was no life there. Nothing.

A light, an eerie light shone over the deep, dark and desolate forest by the castle’s side. As Alice moved slightly she heard owls screeching overhead.

Alice took another hesitant step towards the castle, the wind whipped around her face, the cold felt like knives piercing her skin. Just as she reached the door a thunderous crack from above made the owls in the trees take flight, crying as they went.

Alice slowly, discreetly entered the house. The unknown. She was completely unaware that behind the dark, wet and unbearable forest, she was being followed.

She reached for the ornate door handle. The door creaked as if it would never stop; it was a grim, little room, with a single chair in the centre. It was bolted to the floor and was covered in claw marks and blood.

Alice scanned the environment,” Hello”, she cried out into the dark. No-one. She saw a twinkling light in the corner of her eye. She turned around and saw a gem pendant reflecting vibrantly from a mirror.

She approached the mirror, as she gazed into it she saw the heart wrenching image of a fearsome, pale devil-like creature. When she turned around there was nothing there. Suddenly she heard a grunt coming from the far side of the room. As she scanned the room she saw the strangest of creatures.
It was frightful, disfigured and transparent. It clutched a sword. The sword was long and incurved; it vanished and then suddenly appeared right next to her.

She gasped and ran in the opposite direction. She stupidly tripped and went head first down a flight of dusty, metal, spiral, grated stairs. She looked behind her to see if the creature was still following but she couldn’t see any sign of it.

She felt like there were eyes boring into her skin. As she rounded a corner she caught another glimpse of the creature. She now stood illuminated in a long narrow, stone corridor. As she tried to get her bearings a huge, claw like hand pushed her into a cell like structure.

As she took in her surroundings she heard a muffled noise coming from the back of the cell. There lay a skeletal figure. This figure displayed a map of the castle. On the map a huge X stood out. As she approached for a closer look, the figure of the man moved, he bellowed, “Leave now, save yourself, your only way out is to find the Crystal of Life”.

The warning sent shivers down Alice’s spine, she grabbed the map, turned and exited the room. She immediately remembered the diamond gem she had seen in the mirror. She ran. She ran up the stairs back into the room. Her only way out was to destroy the crystal.

As soon as she entered the room she could see a long beam of light shining on a large crystal pendant. She walked slowly towards it but the creature was waiting for her.
It crawled slowly out of the darkness. It moved closer and closer.

Alice lost hope. She watched in horror as the creature grabbed the crystal.” Is this what you’re looking for?” he snarled.

Alice’s tongue stuck to her mouth, she could feel beads of perspiration begin to run freely down her face. Alice started to back away, but she soon hit a hard wall. The cold stones felt like icicles in her hands. She was trapped.

Alice stood still against the moist, jagged wall and resigned herself to the fact that she was going to die. The creature loomed over her like wild animal savouring his prey. “I have been following you for some time”, the beast smugly stated. “It has been prophesised that I will lose my power to a child named Alice. YOU will not take my life source, you must die”, the beast menacingly shouted.

As quick as lightning he raised his sword, ready to extinguish all that lay in his path. Alice panicked, she felt like a piece of glue stuck to the wall. She pushed her hands towards the wall to try to get her body to move.

As she did so she could feel a stone in the wall move. Alice thought she could lever it out of the wall and use it for protection. Either she must fight or die.

As she pulled on the stone, the wall twirled around sharply, placing her in a new environment. The room was in blackness, an uncertain smell made Alice’s nose tingle. She began to clumsily feel her way around large, weird objects.

She froze. Something was moving beneath her feet. It was speeding up and it smelt foul. Suddenly the whole room seemed to come alive. As Alice groped helplessly for a way out, the creature took pleasure in surveying her.

She had entered the lair, his own personal nest. She was like a tiny insect struggling in the elaborate web he had spun. It was time to catch his prey and ruin the ancient prophecy of his forefathers. The crystal of life would remain his for eternity.
