Year 11 Pupils learn first aid skills as part of Duke of Edinburgh/President’s Award Bronze Award. 02 February 2010

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh/President’s Award Bronze Award candidates must be aware of First Aid and Emergency Procedures.

Mrs Curry, a fully trained nurse was on hand to help deliver the programme which helped students prepare for:
•what to do in an accident situation,
•treatment of hypothermia
•treatment of wounds and bleeding,
•treatment of shock and,
•treatment of minor ailments such as blisters/cuts/abrasions.

The Pupils, pictured here at the end of the course, had the chance to practise their new found skills by treating causalities with complaints of sore heads/legs etc. but more importantly they were able to apply their ABC drill to deal with a unresponsive casualty who had stopped breathing.

Mr Crutchley would like to offer big "thank you" to Mrs Curry for giving up her time to show pupils these highly important skills.

So if you feel yourself getting faint or fall outside in the playground hope for your sake that one of these year 11 pupils is close by!
