Well done pupils from Years 8, 9 and 10 who between them have raised £2,150 for the NICFC.

This is the single biggest sum raised to date and special praise is due to the KS3 pupils involved , The English Department and of course the Librarian Mrs Davies.

This now brings the total money raised in Readon for last five years to £8252.

Particular praise are due to Mrs Heaney’s Year 10 Group 1 class who collectively raised £356 and will receive a group prize which is a weekend with no homework and exclusive use of the library for one lunchtime with music provided.

Special congratulations also to Year 8-2 who just narrowly missed out on this prize.

Mrs Davies, school librarian , was delighted to report that Borrowing of school library books tripled for most classes during ReadOn in December.

She was particularly pleased to note that Year 9 boys borrowed four times as many books as normal.

Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer are the most popular books in school this year.

Darren Shan’s vampire series ‘Saga of Darren Shan’ and Robert Muchamore’s teenage spy adventures known as the ‘Cherub’ series continue to prove the most popular with all the boys in years 8-10

Where the money goes next:
• The money will be spent on children and teenagers in Northern Ireland
• help with home heating costs
• travel / petrol costs travelling to Belfast for treatment
• a weekend at Narnia-NICFC log cabin- to relearn skills and socialise with others in the same position..
