Sponsored Walk 2006
On Friday 22nd of September the entire Dominican community took
part in the 9th annual sponsored walk along Portstewart strand
to the Bar mouth and back. The aim of the walk was to raise
money for a number of local and international charities such as
Causeway Wheelers, Adam’s Travels, ABC and Habitat for Humanity.
Causeway Wheelers is a new
charity which focuses on helping young children who use
wheelchairs in their daily routine. It organises activities and
events that these young people would normally not have the
opportunity to take part in.
Adam’s Travels is a charity
created by a past pupil of the school, Adam McGuigan. He aims to
help underprivileged children in the third world by putting on
drama workshops for the kids in these areas.
ABC Trust is a charity which aims
to help Brazilian street children who have been driven out of
their homes through extreme poverty and are living in very
vulnerable situations.
Habitat for Humanity is a
charity which focuses on eliminating poverty housing and
homelessness in disadvantaged countries and to make decent
shelter a matter of conscience and action.
As the staff and pupils of Dominican set off to walk the five
miles of the beach, the sun shone unexpectedly and it was an
enjoyable experience for everyone. The walk was extremely
successful and the final total is still being counted. However
we hope that we will be able to beat the last year’s fantastic
total of £9,000.
