Sponsored Walk 2007

On Friday 28th of September the entire Dominican community took part in the 10th annual sponsored walk along Portstewart strand to the Bar mouth and back. The aim of the walk was to raise money for a number of local and international charities such as HENE, Macmillan Cancer Support, CRY and the Feathers Project.

HENE is an organisation for children infected /affected with HIV/Aids. It is a non governmental organisation based in Uganda with a primary focus on children with terminal illnesses.

MacMillan Cancer Support is a charity aiming to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. It provides practical medical, emotional and financial support and campaigns for better cancer care.

CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) is a charity which which seeks to raise awareness of sudden cardiac death in young people.

The Feathers Project is a charity initiated by the Lions clubs of Ireland focusing on collecting money to fund organisations dedicated to preventing suicide and helping those families who have suffered.

As the staff and pupils of Dominican set off to walk the five miles of the beach, the sun shone unexpectedly and it was an enjoyable experience for everyone. The walk was extremely successful and the final total is still being counted. However we hope that we will be able to beat the last year’s fantastic total of £10,000.
