Key Stage 3
Throughout the school pupils experience a wide variety of learning and teaching approaches, including active learning, group work, practical and experimental activities, project work and fieldwork. The Cross-Curricular themes of Careers, ICT, Health Education, EMU, Cultural Heritage and Economics are taught as part of the Programmes of Study of individual Departments as well as having the separate timetabled slots described.
KEY STAGE 3
Each year group from Year 8 to Year 10 is divided into three teaching groups. There is no streaming and the groups are matched in terms of ability, gender and other characteristics.
In Year 8 pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, RE, French, Heritage Studies, Geography, Home Economics, History, Art, Music, Drama, PE, ICT, Technology and have a Pastoral Care class with their Form Teacher. As well as being taught ICT the use of ICT is incorporated into the work of other subjects.

The Year 9 curriculum is almost identical to that offered in Year 8. A second modern language is taken and the current choice is from Spanish or Irish. As part of their Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) pupils take the “Education for Love” programme.

Year 10 pupils study their Science as individual subjects:- Biology, Chemistry and Physics. ICT is fully integrated into the curriculum rather than being taught separately and pupils prepare an ICT portfolio for accreditation by CCEA. End of Key Stage tests, organised by CCEA are taken in English, Maths and Science.
