Dominican Pupils set off this weekend for Aix en Provence .Mrs Elaine Smith ,organiser of the French exchange ,expressed her hope that the pupils would immerse themselves in the culture of their French host family developing their confidence in using the language .She explained that this was the fourteenth French exchange but that it was the first with the College Chateau Double in Aix . Pupils from the French school are due to visit Portstewart in March 2009.
Rosaleen Adamson and Souad Binouche will accompany Mrs Smith on the trip with 26 Dominican French pupils from Year 11 to Year 14 . The group will leave school on Sunday 29th September at 5.20 AM and will return to Portstewart on Saturday 4th October at 3.30 PM.

In a thrilling climax to the 2008 Chess Tournament, Lazar Zdravkovich is the new Dominican Chess Champion.
Lazar defeated last year’s champion, Jordan Smyth in a very close match. At one point, Jordan’s attack almost made checkmate but Lazar fought back in a final that could have seen the title awarded to either player. Along with the honour of being champion, Lazar won an Easter Egg.

| All Year 8 pupils in Dominican College attended an anti-bullying workshop on Thursday 20th February. On this occasion though, the difference was that the session was led by five Year 13 Performing Arts students, under the supervision of staff.The workshop formed part of the assessed practical of the L6 students and was designed to complement the school’s Pastoral Care programme. |

On Friday 1st February , the traditional first day of Spring , saw the culiminaation of the 2007-2008 Dominican readathon appeal . With levels of book borrowing and reading exceeding last year's endeavours, Dominican pupils raised the phenomenal total of £1917 - a figure not only reflecting the school's birthdate but also almost more than £500 raised last year .

| A team of ten lower sixth DCP students have just been informed that they have been selected to represent their local area in the 2008 EYP finals to be held in Belfast in March 2008 . Jeanettte Thornton , one of the EYP judges, wrote to the pupils to commend them on the quality of their essay and to announce their safe passage to the final phase of the competition . |

| Adam McGuigan returns to Dominican to inspire Sixth Form pupils |

| Adam McGuigan made a fleeting visit to Dominican on Tuesday 15th January to update sixth form students on his work in the Barefeet Street theatre programme in Zambia . He informed students about the valuable ways in which their £2000 contribution from last year’s sponsored walk had helped children in Lusaka and promised them that Tobias ,one of the boys he had helped overcome poverty to achieve a university degree , hoped to visit Dominican in March . Whilst home for Christmas Adam also spoke in local churches in both Portstewart and Dunloy to help generate new funding to help his mission in working with the underprivileged . |
