Ulster Schools Course Fishing Cup - October 2006
On Saturday 7th October a group of four Dominican Students
travelled to Portglenone to compete in the annual Ulster Schools
Course Fishing Competition. Fourth Year student, James Gorham,
sourced the relevant information about the competition and hence
went about organising a team of four to represent Dominican
College.
The team travelled down to the Portglenone's course fishing
facilities and "lines in" took place at 11am. The four team
members, James Gorham, Caleb Coyle, Mark Jamieson and Aaron
Houston were initially split up into the four relevant sections
where their primary aim was to catch as many fish as possible.
A few fish were caught by the Dominican team members, Caleb
catching the most for the team, but the trend for the day was
low across the boards, principally because of the high flow rate
of the river after the heavy rain during the previous
couple of days. Most of the successful catches tended to be at
the lower stretches of the angling facility but the further up
river the less fish were caught. (Aaron had a long day!!)
It was an enjoyable day for all the team members and maybe next
year with better weather conditions the Dominican College Course
Fishing Team will be more successful. Many thanks to Mr Gorham
who transported the team to Portglenone.
